Unveiling the Bust of Venerable Mother Alphonse Marie

On July 15, 2017, the Sisters from three Provinces and one Region celebrated the Jubilee of the 150th anniversary of Venerable Mother Alphonse Marie Eppinger’s birth for heaven, during the 2017 General Chapter. The unveiling and blessing of the Bust of Venerable Mother Alphonse Marie preceeded the solemn Holy Mass.

The tender smile of Venerable Mother Alphonse Marie, her kind and upright view, at that moment, linked heaven and earth. On this particular day, we felt that our Foundress was vividly among us. In the depth of our hearts we revitalized her charism which she left to us – to meditate on the mystery of Redemption, to be penetrated by it and to make it fruitful in the apostolate. Even in this world, we want to bring God’s love, hope and joy with courage and confidence according her example.

The author of the bust of MAM is the Master of Art Ján Frančák, ArtD. from Levoča.

The meaning of creating the bust of MAM, says the author, “is pointed out by her outside shape as well as her inner shape. She is a good example of following Christ, even today. I think, that the 21st century needs Christians who live their friendship with God really serious and try to faithfully follow Christ despite illness and various trials.”

What mostly impressed this author about the simple woman? What message does he want to leave for us?

“The thing, which most instructed me is, that her only consolation was Jesus Christ and the view on the cross. It convinced me personally, that she is “a holy woman” who knows our Lord. I believe that she was a woman “keeping her eyes fixed on Jesus, the Leader and Perfecter of faith.” (Heb 12:2)’

MAM is, for me, an example of humility and devotion to Jesus. When in difficulties, she looks at the cross and likens the image of Christ, but never missing her smile and inner peace. She knows that handing herself over to Jesus, is the best way. Even though it may seem that Jesus abandoned us, that He fell asleep, that He does not exactly know something, we have to believe, that He first loved us, that He is steadfast in His love and true to His word.

Let the example of Ven. MAM encourage us that to become a saint means to embark on an adventurous journey. On this journey is the glorified Jesus and we stand very close to Him (in Him).”
