Pilgrimage During the General Chapter

During the General Chapter, the chapter members and invited gests (Associate members and co-workers) from each Province and Region went on a pilgrimage, held on Sunday, July 16, 2017.

The first stop was in Pompeii. There we attended Holy Mass in the Basilica of the Queen of the Rosary. In the Basilica, on the main altar, is well-known Icon of the Queen of the Rosary, showing the Blessed Mother with the Infant Jesus giving the Rosary to St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena.
After Holy Mass, there was opportunity to get on the Basilica’s tower where we could admire the surrounding city skyline. There we saw Volcano Vesuvius, also.

In the afternoon we went to a little town called Pagani, near to Napoli, where the body remains of St. Alphonsus de Liguori are preserved in St. Alphonsus Basilica by the Cloister of Redemptorist Fathers. This was a main goal of our pilgrimage.
During adoration and Vespers on the tomb of St. Alphonsus, we asked for the needs of our Congregation, for unity and resolution to live our charism faithfully, etc.

Accompanied by Father Paolo Saturn, Redemptorist, we saw the Basilica, Museum and the unique library of St. Alphonsus located in the premises of the Cloister. After a keen and soulful interpretation of Father Paolo, we returned to Salesianum in Rome, the place of our General Chapter, full of gratitude for the graces received and refreshment of body and spirit.

St. Alphonsus de Liguori is one of the Patron Saints of our Congregation and the Patron of our 2017 General Chapter.
